Dollar Does a Midsummer Night's Dream

The Dollar Academy Form I play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was performed over two nights at the school’s studio theatre on 28th-29th May and has been met with rave reviews from the audiences.

The 70 minute performance featured Keir Fairley as the popular Puck, and Guy Stewart and Anya McCrimmon,  and Ramsay Bryce and Christina Callion as young lovers Lysander and Hermia, and Demetrius and Helena.  The entire cast beautifully portrayed the magical world of the fairy wood, with perfectly timed and brilliantly performed comedy provided by Charlie Worsley, Alex Parker, Lucy Cousins, Alistair Ward, Finlay Balfour and Nick Vetta in their roles as the mechanicals.

A total of 21 pupils acted in the play, with dozens of others involved in the costume, make-up , set-design and ticketing.  Their hard work and preparation paid off, with a seamless performance of this Shakespearean classic, enthusiastically delivered to two sell-out audiences.

Mrs Heather Moore, English Teacher at Dollar Academy and Producer of the Form I play, commented:  “It’s difficult to express how exciting it is to see twelve year olds performing Shakespeare in effortless fashion—what is really evident is that, not only do they ‘get’ it, they absolutely love it.”
