Dollar has enjoyed yet another very successful year in the World of Shooting. The 28 strong squad works hard over the entire summer term competing in numerous competitions all over Britain.
This year Dollar won fourteen major competitions and were well placed in numerous events against all of the best shooting schools in the UK. Bisley this year was a triumph once more, with the team securing 2nd place in the Ashburton, shootings most prestigious outdoor trophy competition. As well as these successes down in England the team also won many trophies in Scotland retraining for yet another year the Scottish Schools trophy.
For a large number of the Dollar Shooting Squad, the sport offers more than just a chance to fire practice cards in our indoor range or travel weekly to Castlelaw near Edinburgh for our Full bore routine. For many it opens door to seeing a large part of the world, as again this years squad had members travelling to South Africa, Canada, India, Jersey and closer to home Bisley near London. No fewer than 11 individuals have been selected to represent Great Britain or Scotland in International Shooting Competitions. However, shooting is more than firing rifles and getting winning scores it’s about broadening your horizons, meeting new people from all walks and life and most importantly having good fun. This article gives a brief insight into what has been achieved since the last publication of Fortunas.

Green Howards Country Life
Dollar this year again enjoyed great success in indoor competitions winning the most valuable prize, the Green Howard’s Country Life. The competition consists of four stages: the grouping, the rapid, the snap and the landscape. These all highlight the true qualities needed to be a high performance shooter. In this instance the competitions test not only the firers' technical ability, but how they act under time pressure, and their ability to communicate in a team environment. Dollar success in this particular event doesn’t only show how strong the shooting team is, but the quality of pupils the Academy are producing.

The Athelings, Canada
Individually the team enjoyed many successes last year. Ewan McConnell (FP) represented Great Britain on two occasions. Ewan travelled to South Africa as part of the GB under 19 team where he in fact won the South African junior grand, making him the best under 19 shot at that meeting. He also travelled with the Athelings, the crème de la crème of the cadet shooting world, to Canada this summer where he again achieved great things contributing invaluably to the team success over there. Has greatest achievement being finishing 7th in the Governor General's Final, an open competition involving adults from all over the world!

Channel Islands
Ewan Torrance (Form 6) also was received international recognition by being included in the United Kingdom Cadet team touring Jersey this summer. Ewan, one of the key members, alongside Matthew Robson, in this year’s team, helped the Cadet team to victory over the Channel Islands. He gained a huge amount from this experience and is now well informed about team environments.

Unlike the large majority of her peers Jen has opted out of the University retrace and is pursuing a career as a full time professional Athlete.
