Primary Specialist
Dollar Academy is a long-established HMC school in central Scotland which has a large Prep and Junior School of approximately 375 pupils.
The Prep School has 10 classes, with two parallel groups at each level from P1 to P5. Both Junior 1 and Junior 2 (P6 and P7) are also admission stages, enabling new pupils to join the Academy in the two years leading to the senior school. The Academy aims to provide curricular flow from age 5 to age 18, and there are demonstrable benefits of this policy.
The younger pupils in Dollar Academy enjoy an excellent grounding in the core subjects, as well as specialist lessons from senior school staff in Art, Music, PE, Home Economics, Swimming and Technology. From Prep 4 onwards, pupils come increasingly into contact with senior school teachers so that after Junior II (Primary 7) they are not only extremely well prepared academically for Senior School education, but have actually been introduced to some senior learning environments and to a number of Senior School teachers. The Junior School, especially acts as a transition in this sense, and much of the senior curriculum, including science, technology and modern languages (French, German and Spanish), is begun in Junior 1.
The academic standard throughout the school is high. We believe that we have retained what is best from traditional approaches, while incorporating the most effective modern strategies. Individual, class and group teaching methods are used; we have a well-resourced Support for Learning Department which ensures continuity of support throughout the Academy.
The Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate. Likewise there are many boarders on campus – staff are again encouraged to be involved in the corporate life of the Academy. The salary for the post will be in accordance with the Scottish scales with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. All teachers appointed should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.
