The Argyll girls come from a wide variety of different backgrounds and countries. Some have even lived in a number of different countries all over the world. Every girl contributes to the atmosphere in the house through their cultural experiences and also benefits from the other girls’ input. We try to cultivate an ethos of understanding, tolerance, tact and diplomacy in an environment where every member of the House supports each other.
Our House is a beautiful stone built Victorian villa on the edge of the campus with 12 bedrooms, two shower rooms and a bathroom upstairs. Between 20 and 25 girls are housed in a mixture of rooms which are of various sizes. We aim to accommodate Form V and Form VI girls in single rooms, if numbers permit. The ground floor has two day rooms for relaxation with TV/DVD/VCR in each and a study room, in which girls up to and including Form III do their homework. This room is also equipped with six computers which are connected to the school network and provide 24-hour internet access. In the supper kitchen, a snack is served after prep. The girls can also use this room to make a hot drink after school or do some baking at the weekend.
New boarders describe their experiences of boarding in Argyll.
“When we first came into the House we were both really nervous, but then we met our room mates and they were really friendly so it helped us settle in. Now we are having great fun in the House and have got to know everyone well. We have only been here four months but we feel like we have always been here.” (Form III)
“As a new member to the boarding community, I can definitely say it was not what I expected. My expectations were high but what I have experienced here in Argyll has excelled everything I ever imagined. I would never have imagined how much I would love it. The boarders all eat together and over time all the Houses bond and I felt like I had become a part of a big family. The size of the House and the boarding community is perfect. When I first arrived I was nervous about the cliques but I was welcomed by everyone and felt at home immediately.
All the staff that help out in the House have become like friends and the House parents are very welcoming. I have quickly developed a great relationship with them both.” (Form V)
