HEALTH
We will register you with the local health centre. Should you need to visit the doctor we will be happy to make an appointment for you.
You will also be registered with Mr Watson, the local dentist, unless your parents advise otherwise. Some boarders may require orthodontic treatment and Mr Watson will advise if this is necessary.
Please ensure all medicines are given to the house staff for safe-keeping. If you have an inhaler/EPIPEN/or regular medication, please discuss this with Mr or Mrs McFadyean.
PREP
This is a very important time. You are required to be working quietly in your own room between 6.00pm and 8.00pm Mon—Thurs and between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday.
Telephone calls are not usually permitted during these times so please let your family and friends know.
You may use the ICT room which has 6 computers and 2 printers. You can access the internet here.
DRESS
Outdoor shoes should always be removed when in the house. Your shoebox is in the boot room and all shoes should be stored in your own box. Please do not leave shoes lying around.
Uniform is worn for school and for church on Sunday. However the kilt may be worn for church. Form V and Form VI boys may wear a suit to church
LAUNDRY
It is your responsibility to ensure all laundry is placed in the baskets in the corridors. Please put all weekend rugby washing in the large green basket in the laundry.
Bed linen is changed every two weeks.
All clothing should be machine washable and clearly named. If you have anything to be named please speak to Allison or Mary. Do not put drycleaning items in the laundry baskets.
PERSONAL ORGANISATION
We insist on high standards in this area. You will have adequate storage for books and clothing and you should keep your room tidy at all times. Your room will be checked each day to make sure it is neat and tidy and occasionally there will be cupboard checks.
TV/VCR/DVD
Each common room has its own TV/VCR/DVD. Please ensure you adhere to the age limits placed on viewing by the BBFC.
If you are borrowing a film please ensure it is returned promptly after use. You may not watch DVDs on laptops after 10.30pm.
TELEPHONE
There is a card operated ‘phone for your use. This does accept incoming calls. Please let your friends and family know the number. Cards can be purchased from the local post office.
Telephone Number 01259 740589
You can also contact your friends and family using SKYPE from the ICT room. Many of the boys find this a great way of staying in contact with friends and family.
SIGNING IN/OUT
The signing in/out book will always be found on the bureau beside the ICT room. When you leave the house you must sign out and on your return you must sign in again.
If you have permission for a day/weekend out you must sigh in/out in addition to reporting in/out to a member of staff.
WEEKENDS/DAYS OUT
The Information for Pupils Booklet gives full information on how you should manage weekends and days out. Permission letters should be handed in by Wednesday. You must sign out prior to leaving and then sign in when you return. Please discuss any requests for an overnight stay away from the House with us.
VISITORS
You may have school friends visit you in the house but you should ask permission before they come in. Please let the house staff know if your parents/guardians/relatives visit. No visitors are allowed upstairs without permission. No one other than the occupants should be in rooms unless the occupant is present or has given permission.
YOUR CONCERNS
If you have a problem or concern you will hopefully feel you can approach a member of staff or our Head of House. In school there are also members of staff you can approach eg. the school nurse, Mrs Jean Dunnet, your Form Tutor, your Head of Year or any member of staff you trust. Mrs Kay Robertson is the school’s Child Protection Officer and you will find her office in the Prep School.
