In September 2007, Dollar Academy headed for the hills once again for its biennial sponsored walk and the efforts of the whole school community were translated into the remarkable sum of £48000. The funds raised were donated to six charities, selected by the pupils' Charities Committee, and chosen to reflect the local, national and international interests of the Academy.
One of the recipients was Sightsavers International, who work in over 30 countries around the world. The Head of Sightsavers International Scotland writes:
"I am pleased to report that your generosity has had a huge impact on Pakistan. We were able to allocate your £8000 donation towards our inclusive education pilot project in Islamabad."
"Sighstavers supports the principle of inclusive education which sets out to ensure that children who are blind or visually impaired are included in mainstream school and receive the same opportunities for education as their sighted peers."
"In summary, your support has helped us to open resource centres in three schools in Islamabad and so enhance the opportunities for blind and visually impaired pupils at these schools."
