Maths Merry-go-Round
With this year’s ‘Treasure Island’ theme to the fore, each of the three rounds of the ‘Maths Merry-go-Round’ had a nautical flavour. Both staff and children dressed appropriately and the entire morning was greatly enjoyed by everyone………many of those in Junior 2 were so involved in the activities that they completely forgot that they were putting their Maths skills to the test at every turn!!
The children’s ‘thank you’ notes included:
- ‘I really liked working in a group and sharing everyone’s ideas.’ (Fiona)
- ‘I really enjoyed the Maths Merry-go-Round’ and I cannot believe that my team won! (Isabelle)
- ‘Thank you very much to everyone who helped – and thank you to all the teachers for dressing up – you looked great!’ (Kyrie)
- ‘I really enjoyed the MMGR as it was not only jovial but also beneficial to my Maths.’ (Anouska)
- ‘I especially enjoyed the pirate chest puzzle and the tangrams.’ (Fraser)
- ‘I loved being in the Primes. Murray was ill so I was Captain, which was very exhilarating. Even though we came 5th, it was a great experience.’ (Catherine)
- ‘Our pirate themed MMGR has definitely been one of my J2G highlights. I thought it was a great way to improve and practise mathematical problem solving.’ (Madeleine)
