Chess Success
Dollar Academy Prep 5 chess club won an impressive eleven out of their twenty four games during their first outing at the Scottish Primary Chess Championships in East Kilbride on 27th May.
The P5 Chess Club has been a weekly ‘date’ for a group of budding chess players since August 2011. The children have learnt to play the game, challenged others on a ladder and improved their skills as the year has progressed. The top four were chosen to represent Dollar Academy, with Andrew Ferguson, Harry Gray, John Ferguson and Euan Moore travelling to the The Scottish Primary Chess Championships on Sunday.
Mrs Gini Currie, P5 teacher at Dollar Academy commented: “During the run-up to this great event, the boys were keen to practise at every opportunity and even had some coaching from a group of Form 3 chess enthusiasts! Andrew, Harry, John and Euan performed very well at the tournament; they were excellent ambassadors for their school and great team players at this, their first chess competition.”
