Scholars’ Challenge Winners 2009
“The Gathering”
Dollar Academy

Last June, a group of sixteen Form V and Form VI pupils rose to a challenge set by the Prince’s Trust to schools all over Scotland. By September, the pupils had to devise and present a business plan to seven entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs then selected and sponsored each of the successful schools with £3,000 of their own money, with the aim of turning it into £20,000 for the Prince’s Trust.
The Dollar team the “The Gathering” excelled itself by organising and running eight different fundraising activities, with the highlight being a spectacular ball and auction at Stirling Castle. Their efforts raised over £86,000 for the trust and, at the final presentation in the Library Halls at Edinburgh University, they were rewarded by being announced the winning team. Geraldine Gammel, Director of the Prince’s Trust Scotland, presented the team with an inscribed cut glass winner’s trophy, individual framed certificates and solid silver Prince’s Trust lapel pins.
