Association Football Fixtures and Results 2007-2008
Thursday 13 March SISFA Cup Match
Glenalmond (Away)
3-2
A disappointing result after being on balance the better team in the first half with the team playing some good passing football. In the second half a sloppy goal was conceded from free kick with the opposition being played onside by a layer standing on the line. Several gilt-edged chances (one-on-ones with the goalie) were passed up during the game and again Jamie Andrew made several outstanding saves. There were some positives from the match, with Jamie Stenhouse and later on Finlay Cairns playing very well and a large number of players being eligible to play again next season.
Tuesday 28 February SISFA Cup Match
Strathallan (Away)
0-2
A disappointing game altogether. The team was well off form with passes going astray and players looking lethargic, and were outplayed physically. A number of players were unfortunately match fit. The few chances that were created were missed and two soft goals were conceded – one from a free kick and the second from a penalty just after half time. Adam Mathers and Mark Tollerton kept the team in the match in the second half and again Jamie Andrew made a number of outstanding saves as the light faded.
27 January SISFA Tournament
Dollar Academy under 15’s six a side team got to the final of the inaugural SISFA tournament on 27th January 2008. They won all four of their group stage matches, their quarter final (on penalties), their semi final (1-0) against Hamilton College and then lost on penalties 4-2, after extra time finished 0-0 against Robert Gordon’s. The team did extremely well, after a number of injuries reduced those able to play to a bare minimum.
Dollar Academy v Dundee High School
Cancelled
To be played in early March 2008
16 January SISFA Cup
QVS, Dunblane (Home)
5 – 1
An excellent result with a strong team selected. The team go off to a great start with some good two-touch football on a fast pitch. Joseph Awuse dropped off well from the two strong and fast QVS central defenders and made a number of excellent through balls for the wingers to run onto. Confidence soured with the first goal and Johnny Mallet seemed to enjoy his free role between midfield and attack. Fraser Drummond hit an unstoppable volley from outside the penalty box to make it 2-0 and goals continued to flow. Joseph Awuse, finding a lot of space by dropping deeper scored three excellent goals, his second hat-trick of the season so far. Apart from several times in the first half when opponents were allowed to slalom through tackles the defence stood up well, being well supported by Matthew Millar and Roberto Tonucci and supported the attack when possible. Again, there were a number of great goal preventing saves from Jamie Andrew. A fifth goal went in and the team eased back with a number of substitutes and QVS grabbed a goal towards the end, a just reward with their period of possession in the middle of the second half. If the team wins their last three cup matches they have a strong chance of qualification for the last eight of the SISFA cup.
17 December SISFA Cup
Robert Gordon’s (Forthbank Stadium)
0 - 6
A disappointing result, the score line not reflecting the large number of chances the team had, with an inspired performance by the Robert Gordon’s goalkeeper. A very even game until just after half-time, with the score 2-0, several great opportunities to draw level were passed up and the other team got another goal just after the break from poor passing and concentration. Despite a number of strong performances by players who don’t play regularly the physical battle for possession was lost and the team struggled to handle the pace up front of the opponents. Despite the result there was a lot of learning for the boys about using a big pitch, watching the ball and taking chances when they come.
1 December SISFA Cup
Gordonstoun (H)
4 - 0
An inspired performance by the team to beat the current holders of the SISFA cup competition. The team took the majority of their chances, with Joseph Awuse scoring an excellent hat-trick. The turning point of the whole game was just before half time when Jamie Andrew dislocated his finger making a great point blank save. He was taken off to hospital, Johnny Mallet then went into goal for a few minutes and then the permanent replacement, Mark Tollerton made a great penalty save. The team really showed their attacking flair, breaking quickly and scoring two more goals, the last one by Andy Watson, a lovely flowing move. The Gordonstoun team, a big physical team, strived to attack and get a goal, however the defence of Finn, Lewis, Adam and Jamie stood firm and launched swift counter attacks, especially down the left wing. A fine team performance, which dealt maturely with the physical nature of the game and played great passing football.
8 October SISFA Under-18 Cup
St Leonard's (A)
2 - 3
In the first cup match of the season St Leonard's were gifted two goals within the first 10 minutes due to poor marking at the back, the second goal being an almost perfect repeat of the first. The team managed to play some nice neat football for much of the first half. However, a failure to convert chances and much wayward shooting led to a number of substitutes being made at half time. The team started to compete much better against a very physically strong opposition with some robust tackling. The team did well to scramble in two goals late on in the match and hit the cross bar in the last minute. Unfortunately the opposition scored a third goal from one of the few breakaways they managed on what was a very small pitch. A disappointing result from a team with good technical skills.
3 October 2nd XI
George Heriot's (A)
5 - 1
Another excellent team performance. Finlay Cairns scored four goals and led the attack admirably. The defence all played well as did the midfield, who won a lot of possession of the ball and prevented Heriot’s developing many meaningful attacks. A great overall performance by everyone involved in the match. Several great saves by Jamie Andrew and admirable composure shown by Nick Page in midfield.
17 September Training Match
Beaconhurst (A)
8 - 1
This was a close match until half time, then there was some good passing which created a number of well taken goals. The opposition struggled to cope with the pace of the attack and the tenacity of the midfield tacklers. There was some really good one touch football. An excellent overall result by the team.
12 September Training Match
Queen Victoria School (A)
1 - 3
Another run-out for several new players. On a very fast astro-turf pitch that took a while to get used to the fast pace of the ball, the team were out-muscled and struggled to get sufficient possession. With what possession the team did win they played some nice passing football and managed a good goal and had another disallowed. However, some slack marking and a failure to close down attackers let the opposition score three goals, including two long shots from outside the box.
5 September Training Match
Woodmill Academy (A)
1 - 6
Woodmill Academy; 5th Sept; away from home; training match; result 1-6
A scratch training XI to give new boys a run-out, with some positive signs of skills. However the team were outplayed by a much more experienced XI who scored a number of excellent goals.
