Geography Trip to Iceland 2009
Land of Fire and Ice
During the Easter break, a group of Geography students enjoyed the dramatic natural wonders of Iceland in a hectic three day tour.
The group had the chance to see the super-heated water eruptions of geysers, bubbling sulphurous mud pools and the famous waterfall at Gullfoss, as well as standing on the exact point where North America and Eurasia are ripped apart. They tasted cucumbers grown in volcanic ash where the greenhouses are heated by geothermal power, and ate delicious lava bread baked in a volcano.
Highlights of the trip included a flight in a light aircraft to the Westmann Islands to explore a steaming volcano and bathing in the mineral-rich geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon.
