HEALTH
FITNESS
Pupils should be fit and healthy. Some of the activities can
be strenuous and require a degree of stamina and skill. If
you are not fit then you increase the risk to yourself and
others. Regular running, swimming or cycling during the summer
term, prior to departure, is advised.
DISEASE
You can check the Internet for up-to-date information on the
situation in Malaysia and Singapore with regard to health.

Medical Advice
VACCINATION
You must visit your local doctor to check on your vaccination
record.
In addition to the normal UK vaccinations you need protection
against Hepatitis A and Typhoid. There is likely to be a charge
for this. If you use the Dollar Health Centre then the school
will arrange vaccination for you without charge.
Malaria is not present on the islands we are visiting.
ASTHMA
Many young people suffer from asthma at one time or another
in their early years. This condition can be dangerous to divers,
so if you have a history of asthma then check with your doctor
before deciding to go diving. Remember, if you do not disclose
significant information about your health before going on
the trip you risk losing insurance cover in the event of an
accident. Information

EAR TROUBLE
If you have a history of ear infections or ear trouble, diving
may not be for you. So take advice from your doctor. Around
10% of the pupils who come on our expeditions find that, for
one reason or another, diving does not suit them. However,
there is much to do while the others dive, not least snorkelling
the same area, which can be just as much fun. There will always
be a non-diving teacher on hand to organise sun-bathing on
deck or snorkelling in the coral bays!
PADI FORM
Before you leave, you will be asked to complete an application
form for the PADI Open Water certificate. This asks many questions
about your health. There is no need for your doctor to sign
this unless you declare health problems of one kind or another
on the form.
You must also bring three passport style photos with you on
the trip. If you don't have photos you don't get your PADI
certificate!
