Trips & Visits - Malaysian Expedition
ADDITIONAL NOTES

The flight takes many hours, so bring books, music, games etc for amusement. Don't bring large music machines.

All accommodation is air-conditioned with hot and cold water.

Electricity is available at both resorts on standard 3-pin plugs 220v.

There are a number of small shops at Paya Beach on Tioman.

The following can be purchased on Tioman: batteries, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent/killer, flip-flops, T-shirts, sarongs, postcards and stamps, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, drinks, biscuits and crisps.

Suggest you share a hair-dryer with one or two others in the party.

Food - there is a wide variety on offer, including plenty of local fare. Mostly, chicken, fish, rice and noodles + fruit. Melon in abundance!
Let us know of any dietary requirements - eg vegetarian.

Water - plenty of fresh water for washing, but bottled water recommended for drinking.

Rooms - variable: two or three sharing rooms in Singapore; four or more sharing on Tioman.

Phobias - you are likely to come across lizards of all sizes, small snakes, spiders, large insects, scorpions and mice. Don't say you haven't been warned!

Money - You need to bring Singapore dollars. Suggest 150 S$ (£50) to start with, plus Travellers Cheques or English notes (not Scottish notes). Malaysian Ringgits can be bought in Singapore or on Tioman Island. If you wish, you may buy Ringgits in Scotland and bring them with you. Suggest £50 at most. Current exchange rate is roughly 6 to the pound. Ringgits are needed for Tioman and for the journey home on the Malaysian mainland.

We stay at - YMCA International House, 1 Orchard Road, SINGAPORE. Tel 0065 6336 6000

Good behaviour is expected of course, and if you behave responsibly you will be given more responsibility and freedom. Dollar Academy made a very good impression on previous trips, and we aim to maintain this high standard.
