Geography Trip to Swiss Alps 2008

Switzerland, best known for its dramatic scenery, cheese and chocolate making, is the destination on offer for Form I and II pupils in the summer of 2008.  Departing on Tuesday 24 June, this 5 night tour jets off to the chocolate box village resort of Les Mosses, set close to many wonderful geographical sights and destinations.  Highlights of the trip will likely include:Alps

  • The Mer de Glace – the second largest glacier in the Alps, accessed via a steep cog railway from Chamonix which will take us to an elevation of 6000 feet and spectacular scenery, and, if they haven’t melted the ice caves, carved out annually within the glacier.
  • Followed by a thrilling aerial journey in the world’s most famous cable-car to the Aiguille du Midi for a 3600 panorama onto the peaks of Mont Blanc and its entire range.
  • Visits to the Nestlé chocolate and Gruyère cheese factories, which includes unlimited free tastings.
  • A pleasant walk to a mountain lake and café, visiting a typical Alpine farm en-route.
  • A journey into a mountain and the salt mines at Bex.
  • A guided tour of the United Nations building in Geneva.
  • Shopping in Montreux and a cruise on Lake Geneva.
